New Chinese New Year Pattern: Meet Ying the Snake!

A crocheted snake on a white background

“Ying (英 – meaning “wise” or “flower”) is a Chinese green tree viper from the forests of Southern China. Like those born in the Year of the Snake, she is cautious and introverted, but also wise, sensitive and passionate. She hopes she can offer you guidance to achieve your goals in the year to come!”

In time for Chinese New Year (Wednesday 29th January 2025) comes this elegant lady! The Year of the Snake is associated with transformation and renewal - like a snake shedding its skin. It’s also the year in the Chinese zodiac in which I was born! The pattern itself is a relatively easy one, as the main bulk of the body is just a tube, so this pattern is ideal for beginners.

Make your very own snake with this pattern! If you want to use the same yarns and ‘snake’ safety eyes I did, here's where to find them:

Make Ying the Snake your next crochet project today! You can download the pattern on Etsy or Ravelry, or find more information on the pattern here.

Happy Crafting!
