New Chinese New Year Pattern: Meet Qiang the Horse!
“Qiang (强 – pronounced CHYAHNG, meaning “strong” or “energetic”) is a friendly little horse, a Guizhou pony from a mountain farm in the Guizhou province of Southwestern China. Like those born in the Year of the Horse, he is outgoing, enthusiastic and tenacious. He hopes he can encourage you to persevere towards your goals in the year to come!”
This pretty little pony comes to you in time for Chinese New Year 2026! (A later one this year, starting on Tuesday 17th February). In Chinese astrology, the Year of the Horse is said to represent strength, endurance and forward momentum. It is also seen as a time of social activities and making new friends - finding one’s “herd”, so to speak.
Use this pattern to crochet your very own horse! Here’s some links to the yarns and safety eyes I used:
Yarns:
Rico Ricorumi Twinkly Twinkly DK in 015 Brown for the body (requires three skeins)
James C Brett Twinkle DK in TK1 Black / Black Metallic for the mane and tail
Caron Simply Soft Party in 0019 Platinum Sparkle for the hooves
Eyes - these eyes come in multiple sizes and colours
