Something A Little Different…Collage Cards!

Seven images showing handmade cards, with different designs. First row, left to right: tiger, butterflies, brown dog in party hat; bottom row, left to right: pink lily, plate of biscuits, robin feeding chick, four blue tits

What’s this? A new craft?

As I mentioned in my Water Lily Granny Squares post back in December, I’m hoping to branch out a little with Koalamea Crafts, to cover more kinds of…well, crafts. This is the first of (hopefully) many posts covering the many types of media I use in my creations. So here we go:

A Little Coloured Paper Goes A Long Way

Back in 2018, my nan was having a clear-out, and allowed me to take home part of her collection of patterned scrapbooking paper. Since then, I’ve taken each special occasion as an opportunity to use them for cardmaking! Here’s a selection from over the years:

A handmade card with a design of a tiger laying down

Lounging Tiger

One of the first collage cards I made, this one was made as a birthday card for my mum in Spring 2019. Made by tracing a picture from a book, this one was supplemented with white acrylic and black biro for the details in the face.

Left: a handmade card depicting nine butterflies; right: nine images of butterflies, each one corresponding to a butterfly seen on the card pictured left

Kaleidoscope

Another birthday card from Spring 2019, this time for my nan. This one’s actually one of my favourites - while relatively simple, I like that the patterns on the paper added a slight asymmetry to the butterflies’ wings. Antennae, legs and body details were done in fineliner.

Included to the right are pictures of the original butterflies traced to make each one on the card.

A handmade card depicting a pink lily and the words "Happy Birthday", on a green background with small cursive script

Lily Literature

Moving forward a couple of years, this was my nan’s birthday card in 2021. The stamens, stigma, petal details and the “Happy Birthday” were done with a mix of acrylics, watercolours and fineliner.

A handmade card depicting a brown Labrador puppy wearing a party hat with a cupcake in front of it, surrounded by balloons, and the words "Happy Birthday!"

Party Pup

This good boy is the focus of the birthday card I made for my Labrador-loving dad in Winter 2022. Balloons, lettering and face details were done with fineliner and brush tip pens.

A handmade card depicting a blue plate of six assorted biscuits

Biscuit, Anyone?

A selection of biscuits on a pretty plate for my mum’s birthday in 2023. Details made in pencil and fineliner, background in coloured pencil.

A handmade card depicting a robin feeding a chick in a nest

Treats from Papa

This robin feeding his chick was very on-theme for a Father’s Day card in 2023. Details were done with fineliner and black acrylic pen, background in coloured pencil.

A handmade card depicting four blue tits on a branch

Undergrowth “Blues” Quartet

A small flock of blue tits features on this card for my grandad’s birthday in 2023, shortly after I was gifted a pack of craft ‘paper’ with interesting, net-like textures which I used for the background. Details and branch were added with brush tip and acrylic pens.

If you liked these, there are quite a few more where this came from, so stay tuned for those!

Happy Crafting!
